Project Description

The aim and objective of the project is to establish a structured European mechanism for the exchange of information between countries, in particular in the area of population health, with a focus on the wider impact of Covid-19. The project aims to enable and support open, interlinked and data-driven research and to support the exchange of best practices on the collection, preparation, processing, use and further use of data.

One of the key objectives of the project is to provide the Covid-19 Health Information Portal with FAIR catalogues to ensure a structured exchange of best practices and expertise on Covid-19, and to promote interoperability and address inequalities in health information. This is why the project will build national nodes, prepare catalogues of data sources, population health care studies, training materials and courses, considering ethical and legal aspects.

Added Value

There is an added value for the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) and Slovenia as a result of project activities.

Improving health information, which we are preparing both in terms of timeliness and comparability with other countries, setting up the Health Information Portal, where health information will be available for most European countries, case analyses using (also) Slovenian data, and obtaining information from other countries from the Rapid Exchange Forum (WP 8).

Expected Results and Materials

The PHIRI project has started 1 November 2020. Over the last two months, NIJZ worked on the project in accordance with the arrangements with the work package leaders, most of the work was on the Health Information Portal (WP 4) and the Rapid Exchange Forum (WP 8).

Activities in this area started immediately after the start of the project, and by the end of 2020, some metadata standards had already been developed. Slovenia has been in charge of the work package together with Finland and is therefore very active in its operations.

From the very beginning of the project, the Forum for Rapid Information Exchange (WP 8), which has been providing quick answers to questions on research and policies to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic and where Slovenia has been actively participating, is also intensively running.
