“The purpose of the IHR is to prevent, protect, control and implement public health measures in the event of a biological, chemical or nuclear threat with the potential to spread across borders. It is important to establish cooperation with other countries in terms of exchange of good practices and expertise in individual fields and to cooperate in international education, which enables us to participate in SHARP JA.”

Project Title: Sharp JA – Strengthened International Health Regulations & Preparedness in the EU

Official Website of the project: https://www.sharpja.eu

Project Description

The SHARP Joint Action project, launched on 1 April 2019, brings together 26 partners from European Union countries. The three-year project aims to strengthen a safer environment for all EU citizens by promoting the implementation of all eight key functions of the International Health Regulations (IHR) in countries and identifying weaknesses and shortcomings in the implementation of recommendations based on WHO external evaluations in some countries. The main objective of the project is to improve the implementation of the IHR with a focus on preparedness and response to serious cross-border health risks. This includes monitoring, identification, preparedness and response to risks to human health, whether of biological, chemical, environmental or nuclear origin.

Added Value

The planned activities of this project will help to find solutions to successfully meet the requirements of the IHR, to prevent and manage various cross-border biological, chemical and environmental risks, to strengthen intersectoral cooperation, to upgrade and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and to strengthen continuous training in the areas covered by the project.
